It has been a privilege to be in Jordan this week, with the Coalition for Global Prosperity and a cross-party group of prospective parliamentary candidates, understanding some of the challenges and opportunities in the country - not least as a result of the conflict in Syria over the last 11 years. It was particularly insightful to visit the Za'atari Refugee Camp in the north of Jordan, housing 85,000 of the more than 1million displaced from Syria, and who are rebuilding their lives but desperate to return home.
The support of the UK in this endeavour is vital - by supporting vulnerable communities overseas there is an obvious benefit in enhancing security at home, as well as being a moral imperative.
Equally, a visit to the Jordanian Parliament, and a meeting with the Foreign Affairs Committees of both houses, was an opportunity to understand the role that Jordan plays on the world stage and in maintaining a fragile peace in the region which has for so long been so challenged.
